out a question sheet. Whereas Amy as a degraded Orange finds the questions
hard and too much for the time they have, the Blues and Dark Greens seem
to have no problems with the question sheet. Amy wonders about that. |

The
reader gets the information that Sue has lost her baby. Hideo is back again
from San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs Sumoto learn about the lost baby through
Amy who reproaches her father for not having accepted Sue. Thereupon Mr.
Sumoto leaves the room in annoyance. Her mother shows Amy what preparations
they have already done for the baby and it gets obvious for the reader that
they were really looking forward for the baby. Mr. and Mrs. Sumoto´s
sadness and disappointment are large. |

At the end
of chapter XI Mr. Sumoto brings hideo and Sue a bonsai which they have kept
for over 200 years. Maybe this can be seen as a sign that their relationship
is now accepted by Mr. and Mrs. Sumoto. |
